REVIEW
"GUILTY PLEASURE" is for sure a strange movie... Co-directed by Joseph F Prada ("5 DEAD ON THE CRIMSON CANVAS", "EVIL STREETS", "MACHINES OF LOVE AND HATE") and Joe Zaso, this long-running film, actually dating back to 1997, is composed of two distinct movies, each director being in charge of one part.It has to be noticed that, if the idea was sensible, just like recent work from Nonzee Nimibutr, Ji-woon Kim and Peter Chan on "THREE", the most different visions of the directors make the story wobbly and we have more the impression to watch two separate medium-length films.
The first, by Joseph F Prada is called “Nocturnal Emissions”, is more of an erotic thriller than a horror movie properly speaking.
After awfully kitsch credits, we can find Joe Zaso in the part of the detective that he interprets perfectly. Unfortunately, it doesn't quite make it and tension isn't there, which is a pity for what is supposed to be a horror movie... The direction isn't that bad, with games of lights and it's very 70's colours, especially during that hallucinating track race with a most feeble music as a background!
Notice a small mistake in a french part, "My Face" is subtitled "My Breasts" and "My Breasts" is subtitled "My Face" :) !
The second film of this DVD side, "Method of Madness" was directed by Joe Zaso, back to directing seven years after his "IT'S ONLY A MOVIE !". If this part of the story is a bit more researched on, we can find more or less the same faults as the previous, the tension doesn't rise much, even though some scene were made to save the honour.
These two medium-length movies are dispensable but integrate very well to this DVD as an extra to "AND THEN THEY WERE DEAD".
Note from Oh My Gore ! : 5 on 10
